Findel is the number one supplier for school materials across the UK, providing everything schools need to deliver quality education. As a firm of trusted brands they are EarlyBird with a leading infant school range designed to meet early years and foundation stages frameworks.
The Problem
The EaRL reading book range is used extensively around the UK educational world. The EaRL mat in particular had the potential to be made more interactive and engaging, using emerging AR technology.
With the increased use of tablet devices by schools (running both Android and iOS), this presented an opportunity for Findel to produce a cross platform App that could take advantage of the huge uptake of the EaRL product range.
The Solution
Working closely with Findel we built an augmented reality mobile app for both iOS and Android. When viewed through a tablet, the app recognises the EaRL mat using computer vision and overlays 3D animations.
The app provides children with the ability to select from multiple songs, add points and challenge themselves in a fun game to learn what the songs are about.

The Outcome
We received great feedback upon launch, and Findel were quick to make the apps available for UK schools to use alongside the AR mats. Classrooms across the country have started to integrate E.a.R.L and the apps into their ICT lessons, with teachers praising the ease of use and the benefits to their classes.
